Join us in BurnerSphere for an artist talk with Wes Modes, the mind behind one of the most disorienting and unforgettable installations on the playa — Black Rock Station.

Somewhere between 1858 and 2110, a train station exists in the Black Rock Desert. It doesn’t belong to any single moment in time — it drifts through 8 eras across 250 years, carrying with it the sounds of approaching locomotives, fragments of forgotten announcements, and clues hidden in the ephemera left behind. It asks you quietly but powerfully: Where are you? When are you?

Rooted in northern Nevada’s railroad history and the raw beauty of the playa, Black Rock Station is a fully immersive, site-specific experience that rewards the curious and unsettles the certain. It’s a mystery you walk into — and one you might not fully solve.

Come hear Wes talk about the vision, the craft, and the deeper questions woven into the piece:

  • What do we really know about our shared history?
  • Whose stories get told — and whose don’t?
  • What alternate futures and pasts are still possible?

This is a rare chance to sit with the artist, ask your questions, and go deeper into the world he built out of sound, time, and dust.

Thrusday, May 21st @ 18:00 PT Meet at Center Camp, then head to Bijou world.

Open to Campmates and Guests.
