We invite you to a special Temple of the Moon Reveal with James Gwertzman, visionary behind Moonlight Library (2025) and designer of the 2026 Burning Man Temple, and Annie Locke, architect of the 2026 Temple.
James brings a deeply personal approach to the Temple, inspired by experiences of holding space for grief and a 25-year career at the intersection of art and technology, now focused on creating immersive, real-world works that foster connection and reflection.
Annie brings over a decade of large-scale build experience, combining parametric design and digital fabrication, including Galaxia (2018) and projects at Borderland—helping shape a Temple that holds collective grief, love, and shared human experience.
The Temple of the Moon is inspired by the Queen of the Night, a rare desert flower that blooms for just one night before fading with the dawn. This fleeting beauty, paired with the rhythms of the lunar cycle, shapes a Temple that reflects impermanence, presence, and the shared human experience of letting go.
In this live reveal, James and Annie will share the story behind the design, the inspiration rooted in both nature and human experience, and what it means to build a sacred space that will hold thousands of offerings before returning to ash.
